CGT & ATMP
Advancing cell & gene therapy programs amid evolving regulatory environments
Cell & gene therapies are rewriting what medicine can do.
Your company’s CGT and ATMP innovations are creating options for patients who previously had none, putting personalized medicine within reach. But the path from promising science to approved product is uniquely challenging—and you can’t apply old playbooks to therapies that are entering completely uncharted territory.
Comparability constraints, potency and analytical complexity, aseptic processing, and chain-of-identity/chain-of-custody controls introduce new complexity, and one misstep can cost you time, money, and momentum.
You need CMC, quality, and regulatory strategies that are built together, sized to your current phase, and designed to hold up as your process scales.
Achieve Cell & Gene Therapy Regulatory Success with Pharmatech Associates
Pharmatech Associates builds an integrated, phase-appropriate approach across CMC, quality systems, and regulatory strategies.
We build solutions for CGT and ATMP that are:
- Phase-appropriate
- Risk-based
- Inspection-ready
As a USP company with over 30 years’ experience in drug development, CMC, and GMP execution, we help advanced therapy developers anticipate agency expectations instead of reacting to them.
Pharmatech Associates Helps You:
Reduce Rework
Get control strategies and analytical methods right the first time, so you’re not rebuilding your CMC package after a regulator asks a question you can’t answer.
Anticipate Regulators
Work with people who maintain relationships with former FDA inspectors and reviewers—and know what agencies look for in an advanced therapy submission.
Protect Product
Strengthen aseptic processing, contamination control, and chain-of-custody discipline in an environment where a lost batch can’t be remade.
Scale Confidently
Move from clinical to commercial with comparability, tech transfer, and facility readiness planned in advance rather than solved under deadline.
What You Get
Phase-Appropriate CMC Strategy
Development, control strategy, and submissions sized for where your program is now and built to carry forward.
Regulator-Ready Submissions
IND, BLA, and MAA content grounded in practical manufacturing execution, with support for RMAT, PRIME, and other accelerated pathways.

Tech Transfer Without Disruption
Risk assessments, protocols, master batch records, and SOPs that move a process to a new site or CDMO while keeping operations running.
Facility and CQV Readiness
Design review, commissioning, qualification, and validation for cleanroom and advanced therapeutic manufacturing environments.
Over 30 Years’ Experience
Guidance from industry veterans who have taken drugs, biologics, and advanced therapies through regulatory review and out to market.
Our Cell & Gene Therapy Services
CMC and Regulatory Strategy for Advanced Therapies
Cell and gene therapy development demands CMC strategies that adapt to evolving regulations and complex biology. We help you design integrated control strategies that reduce risk, satisfy reviewers, and support commercialization from the start.
- CMC development and regulatory submissions
- Risk-based process control strategies for cell and gene therapy products
- Analytical method development, validation, and potency strategy
- Comparability planning across process and site changes
- Accelerated pathway support, including RMAT and PRIME
Quality Systems Built for Advanced Therapy Manufacturing
A quality system designed for small molecules won’t survive a CGT inspection. We build fit-for-purpose systems that account for living materials, single-patient batches, and the documentation regulators scrutinize most.
- Phase-appropriate QMS design, remediation, and gap assessment
- Chain-of-identity and chain-of-custody controls
- Contamination control strategy and aseptic process review
- Deviation, CAPA, and data integrity systems
- Mock inspections and inspection readiness
Facility Design, Tech Transfer, and CQV
Your facility either enables your process or constrains it. We support advanced therapy sites from conceptual design through GMP release—and move your process between them without losing time.
- Facility design review for US, EU, and multi-market compliance
- Commissioning, qualification, and validation (CQV)
- Process validation and facility readiness
- Technology and analytical method transfer
- Master batch records, SOPs, and engineer training

Frequently Asked Questions
How is cell & gene therapy CMC different from traditional biologics?
The product is often the process. With living materials, small batch sizes, and limited characterization tools, you can’t rely on end-product testing the way you can with other processes. Control strategy, comparability, and potency assays carry far more weight, which means it’s even more important to have all three built into your CMC strategy from the beginning.
When should we start planning for commercial manufacturing?
Earlier than most teams expect. Decisions made in early clinical development—raw material sourcing, analytical methods, process design—become comparability problems at BLA stage if they weren’t made with commercial scale in mind. We help you make those decisions once.
How do you handle comparability when our process changes?
We build comparability protocols before the change, not after. That means defining the analytical package, acceptance criteria, and regulatory strategy up front so a necessary process improvement doesn’t cost you a clinical hold or a bridging study you didn’t budget for.
Can you support RMAT, PRIME, and other accelerated pathways?
Yes. Accelerated designations compress your CMC timeline without reducing expectations. We help you build the manufacturing and quality package to match the pace of your clinical program, so CMC readiness doesn’t become the reason your approval slips.
What does a phase-appropriate quality system look like for a CGT company?
It means building the infrastructure your program needs at its current stage, then expanding it as you advance. A pre-clinical company shouldn’t carry commercial QMS overhead—but it also shouldn’t build something it has to tear down at Phase 3. We right-size the system and scale it with you.
We develop autologous therapies. How do you approach chain of identity and chain of custody?
We approach it as a patient safety issue first and a documentation issue second. We help you design and validate the controls, labeling, and tracking systems that prevent misassignment across collection, manufacturing, and infusion—and document them in a way that stands up to inspection.
Do you support advanced therapy medicinal products in Europe as well as the US?
Yes. We support programs across the US, EU, Canada, Mexico, and Japan, including multi-market facility design review and submissions. Advanced therapy medicinal product expectations in the EU don’t map one-to-one to FDA expectations, and we help you plan for both rather than sequentially.
Can you help us transfer our process to a CDMO?
Yes. We manage technology and analytical method transfer end to end—risk assessments, protocols, batch records, SOPs, and training—and maintain regulatory alignment throughout so the transfer doesn’t create a comparability or filing problem.
What's involved in CQV for a cell & gene therapy facility?
Commissioning, qualification, and validation covers design and submittal review, factory and site acceptance testing, qualification protocol execution, and the document approval process behind all of it. For CGT sites, aseptic design, segregation, and contamination control get particular attention.
Can you help us prepare for an FDA inspection?
Yes. We conduct mock inspections structured around what agencies actually prioritize in advanced therapy manufacturing, pressure-test your investigations and documentation, and close gaps before an inspector finds them.
How quickly can you get started?
We’re built to move fast. In many cases, we can begin within days—and you can be on a call with a subject matter expert within hours of connecting with us.
