Biologics
Advancing biologics programs from early development to reliable commercial supply.
Biologics are behind some of medicine’s biggest breakthroughs.
Your antibodies, biosimilars, and other complex products have the power to transform the pharmaceutical industry.
But they also require navigating complex development, manufacturing, and regulatory hurdles—and one small discrepancy can get your processes off track.
That’s why your CMC, analytical, and regulatory strategy for your biologics products can’t live in separate lanes. You need a process that’s built with an integrated approach and strong enough to hold up as you scale.
Advance Biologics Development with Pharmatech Associates
Pharmatech Associates integrates drug substance and drug product CMC, analytical characterization, quality systems, regulatory strategy, and operational readiness into a single execution plan—so what you develop is what you can characterize, file, transfer, and manufacture at scale.
We build programs that are:
- Controlled from the cell line forward
- Submission-ready
- Built for reliable supply
With over 30 years’ experience in drug development, CMC, and GMP execution, our experts help biotech companies, biosimilar developers, and innovators get biologics development right the first time.
Pharmatech Associates Helps You:
Reduce Risk
Establish cell line, process, and analytical controls early, before a comparability or stability finding forces you back to the drawing board.
Strengthen Submissions
Build BLA, biosimilar (351(k)), and IND packages with the characterization, methods, and justification reviewers expect.
Protect Supply
Hold manufacturing stable across scales, sites, and partners with control strategies that perform at commercial volume.
Control Costs
Our experts perform assessments that target where your program is exposed, which reins in spending and improves efficiency.

Our Biologics Development Services
CMC Strategy and Regulatory Submissions
Your CMC package is the argument for your product’s quality. We define the strategy early, then generate and organize the data that supports it, including the adaptation work that ex-US programs need before they’re ready for US submission.
- CMC and regulatory strategy for IND, BLA, and biosimilar (351(k)) pathways
- Data review and section authoring for Module 3 and quality summaries
- Comparability strategy and supporting documentation
- Adaptation of ex-US programs for US submission
- Regulatory response and agency interaction support
- Alignment with FDA, EMA, and ICH expectations
Cell Line, Process, and Analytical Development
Biologics risk concentrates in the biology and the process. We build the control strategy from the cell line and process forward, so your specifications and methods stand up to review and continue to perform through transfer and commercial supply.
- Cell line evaluation and upstream and downstream process assessment
- Critical quality attribute identification, including glycosylation, charge variants, aggregation, and host cell protein
- Specification setting and justification
- Analytical method development, validation, and lifecycle management
- Stability strategy and program design
- Critical raw material and vendor qualification
Tech Transfer and Scale-Up
Moving from development scale to commercial volume introduces risk at every handoff. We assess your controls, procedures, and process maturity against global expectations, then build the roadmap and provide hands-on support to execute it.
- Gap analysis against global regulatory expectations
- Tech transfer planning, protocols, and batch records
- CDMO selection oversight and readiness activities
- Process validation strategy and execution support
- Commissioning, qualification, and validation readiness
- Method transfer and comparability planning
Biologics Manufacturing and Supply Recovery
When manufacturing performance slips, margin and market position go with it. We identify root cause quickly, design corrective actions that satisfy regulators, and return your program to stable supply.
- Root cause investigation and CAPA development
- Batch failure and out-of-specification investigations
- Process robustness assessment and improvement
- Predictive and in silico modeling for process performance
- Remediation planning and regulatory response
- Post-approval change strategy and justification
Case Studies
Build a biologics program that’s ready for anything.
You don’t have to solve strategy, characterization, filing, and commercial supply alone. We’ve taken biologics from process development through commercial launch before, and we know where programs get stuck. As a USP company, we bring a standards-setting perspective and expertise to every engagement. Connect with us and let’s create a path forward together.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the biologics development process look like?
It runs from cell line and process development through analytical method development, formulation, scale-up, validation, and filing. Each stage produces decisions that constrain the next. Your cell line and process shape your product’s quality attributes. Those attributes determine your specifications. Your specifications determine what you can defend at review and what your manufacturing process has to deliver every batch. Programs that treat these as one connected strategy move faster than programs that treat them as sequential handoffs.
When should we bring in support for CMC strategy?
Earlier than most teams expect. Cell line, process, and analytical decisions made in early development determine what you can defend later. Bringing strategy in early costs far less than reworking a program after a filing stalls. If you’re already further along, a focused gap analysis will tell you where you stand and what has to close before your next milestone.
Do you work on biosimilar programs?
Yes. We support biosimilar developers on CMC strategy, analytical similarity and comparability, specification justification, and the data package that has to hold up under review. We also help sponsors understand what their program needs before they commit to a pathway.
We developed our product outside the US. What does it take to file here?
Ex-US programs often need meaningful adaptation before they’re ready for US submission—differences in specification expectations, comparability, stability design, and data presentation are common. We assess your existing package against FDA expectations, identify what has to be generated or reworked, and build the submission strategy from there.
How do you approach comparability?
We start with your product’s critical quality attributes and the analytical package that characterizes them, because comparability stands or falls on how well you’ve defined and can measure what matters. From there we design the studies and justification that support process changes, scale-up, and site transfers. Comparability is one of the most common sources of late-stage findings in biologics programs, and one of the most preventable.
Our product is losing batches. Can you help us find the cause?
Yes. We investigate root cause, design corrective actions that satisfy regulators, and help you return to stable supply. We combine hands-on process expertise with predictive modeling to find the source of the problem quickly and keep it from coming back.
How do you support tech transfer to a CDMO?
We manage the technical risk, not just the logistics. That includes gap analysis, risk assessments, protocol and batch record authoring, method transfer, comparability planning, and oversight of readiness activities at the receiving site. We’ve transferred programs across sites and organizations without losing regulatory alignment or schedule.
Can you help with supplier qualification and oversight?
Yes. Supplier and data integrity issues surface at the worst possible times—during inspection, or after a filing is already under review. We support supplier qualification, technical oversight, audit readiness, and data integrity assessment across your external network.
How do you handle post-approval changes?
A well-built control strategy anticipates change. We help you plan and justify post-approval changes, manage comparability, and implement process improvements without disrupting supply or triggering avoidable regulatory burden.
Do you work on biologics only, or other modalities as well?
Our teams cover biologics, small molecules, cell and gene therapies, and combination products. We match the right expertise to your product rather than applying a single template.
